What is Chandra Darshan – Chand and its significance?
Chandra Darshan is the ‘first day of moon sighting’ after new moon day.
A vrat (fast) is observed on this day in ‘bright half’.
Vrat concludes after viewing the Chandrama (Moon).

When the Chandra Darshan – Chand occurs?
It occurs after a no moon day.
It is ‘once in a month’ during Hindu Lunar Calendar.
On the ‘first or second tithi’ (1^st or 2^nd ‘lunar day’) in the Monthly ‘Shukla
Paksha’ #(Bright half).

What is Chandra Uday?
It is rising moon (rising phase of a moon).
✪Uday means rise or rising, “going upwards, ascending”.
Chandra means moon. “Chandra (Candira) the moon”.
Chandra “glittering, shining (as gold),
having the brilliancy or hue of light (said of gods@).”
“The Moon (also personified as a deity)”.

In 2021-2022 upto April, Chandra Darshan dates every month during the Masik (Mashik – Monthly) Shukla Paksha i.e. Bright Fortnight (#Moon rise, Moon Phase when the 1^st or 2^nd lunar day ‘tithi first’ or ‘tithi second’ ‘Chandra ✪Uday’, ‘Moon Rise’, ‘Chandra Darshan’ occurs) are given as below in Vikram Sambat 2077-2078 Saka era 1942-1943:-

Note: SP – Shukla Paksha (Bright fortnight). Cheti or ’Chet’ means of Chaitra Masa (month). *Chandu चन्डु – is the Chand चन्ड (Chandra Darshan or Chandrama Darshan). Among Sindhis it is being called ‘Chand’. **Mahina – Sindhi community calls a masa मास, a ‘Mahino महीनो’ or ‘Mahinaa महिना’ (plural) i.e. a month(s). It is also referred ‘Mahina महिना’ or ‘Maaha’ माह (Maha). The Hindu Community in HK including Sindhi community in Bharat, Hong Kong and in other countries observe the Moon phase “Chandra Darshan – Chand” looking at the ‘Lunar Calendar’ or ‘Tipno‘ (Hindu Lunar Calendar – Panchang). #The modes of the reckoning the beginning of the month from the ‘new moon’ or the ‘full moon’ phase.

When the Chandra Uday (moon rise phase) takes place, it dispels darkness. Uday meaning in Sanskrit rise, rising; and Udaichand moon-like light. It means one who brings light in darkness. [(It is being said­­­­, that, an astrologer named the newborn ‘Udaichand’. Child born (चैत्र शुक्लपक्ष २ संवत्‌ १००७ शुक्रवार​ ) in Nassarpur, Sindh to Mata Devki and Ratanchand Lohano a Sindhi family on ‘Friday’ on ‘second lunar day’ during waxing ‘Moon Rise’ lunar day ‘चंद्र ऊदय – चंद्र दर्शन​’ दिन​)].

Yearly चेटी चण्ड (चेट महिने जो चंडु – चेटु महिनो सहाई बी॒ज ज़ुम्मो) occurs during March or April. It is Chandra Uday Diwas – Chand Darshan Day on Chaitra Masa (month). It is the birthday of (Sindhi) Ishtadeva Uderolal Jhulelal. It is the reason for celebration and day is most significant for festive ‘New Year day’ ‘Sindhi Chet-i-Chand Festival Day’. Thus, not only Chandra Uday of Chaitra Shukla Cheti Chand, but, all the twelve months of a year, Chandra Day (Chand Dinhu) is being devoted to Jhulelal among Sindhi Community offering Prayers (such as Behrana, Jhand, Munhanu – Baby first Hair Cutting and many other auspicious ceremonies) on ‘moon rise night’ i.e. ‘first day of moon sighting’ after new moon day.
‘Assu Mahine Jo Chand’: Ashwin Masa Shukla Paksh Chand is auspicious for pujas.
