What they do before sagai?
They fix the date (muhurat) for Sagai (Ring ceremony).
And on a selected Sagai day, they arrange puja and ‘perform prayer rituals of Sagai’.

Which are Sagai Shubh Muhuratam Dates सगाई मुहूर्त?
The Auspicious days for engagement – ring ceremony (Sagai – Misri) are required.
These tithi dates are called ‘Shubh Sagai Muhuratam Din’.

What is Sagai Pooja (ring ceremony) prayer ritual, who performs it, how and when?
And on an auspicious day, prayers for the engagement ceremony is being conducted.
‘Hindu Priest’ (Brahmin, Purohit, Pandit) performs the ‘Sagai Puja’.
Now, couple, before exchanging the rings to each other; performs ‘pratishtha’.
‘Pratishtha’ of both rings (i.e. ‘Ring Prayers’) are being conducted by Pundit.
That is, rings are being blessed at the Ring Ceremony by Priest, both families, nears, dears and friends.
After this, then, couple exchanges rings for ring ceremony.

When, how and ‘who can workout for an engagement’ ‘auspicious ring ceremony dates’?
It is a first step. So, It is to be worked out at the start point for ‘selecting an auspicious engagement date’.
Auspicious day and date for an engagement, one can find out by ‘asking from an astrologer’; or a ‘Hindu Priest’ for an astrological guidelines.
Both families visit and request to a Priest for ‘consultation of auspicious date’.

For this, one should either bring a Janmakshar – Janampatri – Janma Kundli (horoscope of both who they are being engaged i.e. bachelor and spinster – boy and girl) or if their ‘Janmakshar i.e. Chhathi’ is not available, then, in that case, one can opt to provide the required information of the ‘birth date, time and place of both’.

What is the significance of the Sindhi ring ceremony ‘Mundi’ ‘Mundi Paaein Ja Muhurat’; ‘Mang’, ‘Manga’, ‘Mangino’, ‘Mangini’, ‘Mangjan’; ‘Pakka’ ‘Paka Karan’, ‘Misri’, Vaaga (Vaga Daan) ‘Vaaga-varan’, ‘Paai Peso Diyanu’, ‘Vachan’; ‘Chavan-Chavaaein’ and its pooja muhuratas?

1. The meaning of the ‘Mundi’ मुंडी (मुंड्डी) in Sindhi is ‘ring’ “a finger ring”; & its wearing prayers dates (Mundi Pooja Auspicious Dates).
2. and ‘Mundi Paaein’ मुंडी पाईण (मुंड्डी पाईणु) is to ‘to wear’, ‘to exchange a ring’. The exchange of rings (ring ceremony or engagement ceremony) & its ‘ Sagai Muhurat’.
3. ‘Mundi Paaein Jo Muhurat’ Dates मुंडी पाईण मुहूर्त् means an auspicious time, day and date to fix for ‘Mundi’ ring ceremony prayers.
4. ‘Mang (Mangu) मङ (मङु)’ means, “to ask for”.
5. ‘Manga मङ्ग’, मङ्गेतर​ meaning, “A betrothed girl, fiancée मङ्गेतर​”;
6. ‘Mangino मङिणो’ means “Betrothal.”
7. Betrothment means “Sagai, Mangini”, ‘Mangini मङिणी’.” Mangini Muhurat.
8. ‘Mangjan मङिज़ण (मङिजणु)’ means “to be betrothed.”
9. ‘Paka पक (Pakka पक्क))’ means, “Certainty, assurance; a settled agreement”.
10. ‘Pakka Karan पक करण (पक्क करणु)’: To assure, to agree. कची (कच्ची) पक, कची-पकी पक्क,
11. ‘Misri मिसरी’ means, “sugar candy”. कची-मिसरी, पकी-मिसरी
12. ‘Sang सङ्ग (Sangu सङ्गु)’, ‘Bitto Sangu’: Sangu means, “A cone-shaped or pyramidical lump of sugar-candy”. –Bitto means double. Sangu means, the sugar candy. –Bitto Sangu means, two sugar candies tied together. -This togetherness symbolizes the two are ‘one’. -‘Tied in an eternal bond’ sweetness, sweet relation. –‘Sangu’ significance and meaning is “Companionship, company, fellowship”, of happiness.
13. Vaaga (Vaga Daan – Vagdan वाग॒-दान)’: Vaaga means, “The reins of a bridle”. (Vaga Daan – Vagdan वाग॒-दान)’ Betrothal means Vaagdaan (Vāgdan वाग॒-दान)

13) Vāgdān ‘Vaag-Varan’, ‘Vāga-varan वाग॒ (वागु॒), वाग॒-वरण (वरणु)’ means,

14) ‘Paai Peso पाई-पेसो’ ‘Pāi Pesso Diyanu पाई–पेसो दि॒यणु’
Paai पाई, means, “one third of a pice”. ‘Peso – Paiso पेसो’ means a coin. Thus, ‘Paai Pesso Diyanu पाई-पेसो दि॒यणु’ ritual is to give away a pice as ‘a token of assurance of ring ceremony’ for accepting the ‘relationship’ of (bride and groom).
